At the award ceremony, Fatou Haidara, UNIDO Deputy Director-General, and Managing Director of the Directorate of Global Partnerships and External Relations congratulated the winners and noted the added value of the Global Call that enabled the showcasing of innovative solutions to help address global challenges. Her message was echoed by Stephen Kargbo, UNIDO Representative and the Head of Regional Office in China, drawing on the UNIDO vision and motto, “Progress by innovation” emphasizing the need for innovative solutions to bring the world back on track with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Global Call 2022 received green innovative technologies and solutions from 5 continents, 45 countries and 155 cities in total. Of the 452 projects, 28% came from large enterprises with a scale of more than 1,000 people, 45% came from small and medium-sized enterprises, and 22% came from start-ups. There are 235 Advanced Digital Production projects, 89 Green Growth projects, 62 Medical and Health projects, and 66 Smart Agriculture and Food projects. Among the projects, 61% are led by women, and 68.18% came from the "Global South". Energy, carbon, production environment, intelligence and development are key words of the projects.
UNIDO 2022 Global Call decided seven global champions in four areas. Zhou Qiangwu, Vice President of the NDB, and Gong Weixi, Director of UNIDO's ITPOs and Institutional Partnerships Division, presented awards to the winners of the Smart Agriculture and Food Category , China State Construction International and Tianzhu Textile.
Luo Zhisong, Chief Economist of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, and Kambos, Regional Chief Representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, presented awards to COSCO Shipping Development and Shanghai MS Energy, which were awarded champions in the field of Green Growth Category.
Mr. Huang Feng, President of Shanghai Foreign Investment Association, presented the award to Bertin Technologies, the winner in the Medical and Health Category.
Geng Yong, Dean of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Zhao Xiaolei, Director of UNIDO Shanghai ITPO, presented the awards to eeaser GmbH and Honeywell China Ltd. in Advanced Digital Production Category.
Zhang Jun, Director of Shanghai Qingpu District Business Committee, and Zhao Xiaolei, Director of UNIDO Shanghai ITPO, presented the awards to the Honorable Mention companies.
