Chinese Carbon Capture and Clean Energy Enterprises Showcased at the 3rd Campaign of Carbon-Neutral Technology and Solutions and UNIDO Global Call 2024 China Project Evaluation Meeting
On August 27, 2024, the 3rd Campaign of Carbon-Neutral Technology and Solutions and UNIDO Global Call 2024 China Project Evaluation Meeting, part of the Hongkou Carbon Dialogue Series, was successfully held at the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange. This event was co-hosted by UNIDO ITPO Shanghai and the Joint Institute of ISID of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Wu Weiping, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hongkou District Committee of Shanghai and Deputy District Governor, attended the event alongside prominent experts, including Professor Geng Yong, Dean of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Deng Xiangzheng, Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Land Surface Pattern and Simulation at the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Zhang Suyang, Founding Partner of Volcanic Stone Investment; Qian Feng, Founder of Shanghai Qian Yufeng Low-Carbon Technology Co., Ltd.; and Zhao Xiaolei, Head of UNIDO ITPO Shanghai. They conducted thorough evaluations of 11 carbon-neutral technology solutions covering fields such as clean energy, emission reduction, carbon capture and utilization, and green agriculture and food.

Wu Weiping highlighted Hongkou, as an important area of Shanghai's “central radiation”, has always adhered to the development path of the “five centers” fusion and linkage, to support the implementation of the “dual-carbon” development strategy and build a green and low-carbon service area for key industries in Shanghai. Hongkou is committed to serving the development of the national carbon market, supporting various types of green finance and green technology innovation, attracting more professional organizations to gather, and striving to transform the green and low-carbon high-quality development into a driving force for the high-quality development of the region.
Zhao Xiaolei presented the achievements from the previous two rounds of carbon-neutral technology collections. The initiative has received numerous applications from 25 cities, with 20 leading projects selected, of which 8 have won or been nominated for the UNIDO Global Call. ITPO Shanghai has supported these projects in showcasing their innovations at high-level UN forums, such as the International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum and COP28, leading to some projects securing investments in Shanghai. As one of the top 10 ITPOs globally, ITPO Shanghai fosters global technological cooperation and two-way investment through the WiiTs platform, promoting the global application of green technologies to support the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
