Shanghai ITPO's WiiTs Project Wins Criteria 1 Innovation Award at UNIDO Global Call.

"Zero Hunger" is one of UNIDO's three strategic priorities. UNIDO helps reduce post-harvest losses and improve food security through knowledge and technology sharing, while creating employment opportunities for youth by empowering agricultural enterprises. The 2024 UNIDO Global Call, initiated by UNIDO ITPO Korea and jointly organized with the UNIDO ITP Network and other relevant departments, focused on the theme "FOODTECH Innovation and ISID: Nourishing the Future." The call attracted 228 projects from 55 countries. The UNIDO Global Call 2024 Global Awards Ceremony was successfully held in Seoul, South Korea, on November 21, 2024, during the World FoodTech Expo and COEX FOOD WEEK.

UNIDO Deputy to the Director General and Managing Director Fatou Haidara, Organizing Committee Chairman Chung Seung, and Korean Agricultural Innovation Policy Office Deputy Minister Kim Jong-Gu attended and delivered speeches. The ceremony was also attended by Luomei Shu, Director of UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Offices (ITPOs) and Institutional Partnerships; Xiaolei Zhao, Head of ITPO Shanghai; Maengho Shin, Head of ITPO Korea; Hashim Hussein , Head of ITPO Bahrain; and Abimbola Olufore, Head of ITPO Nigeria.

The UNIDO Global Call 2024 featured 23 awards across multiple categories: Category Awards, Evaluation Criteria Awards, Youth Recognition Awards, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Awards, Patent Office Commissioner’s Award, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Award. These awards covered various aspects of the food industry, including production, manufacturing/processing, distribution/delivery, and consumption.

As one of Shanghai ITPO's Global Call 2024 China reserve projects, Shanghai Xiangxiang Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. stood out with their project "Smart Packaging Zero-Carbon Circular Technology and Application for Liquid Food Supply Chain," winning the Criteria 1. Innovation Award for the UNIDO Global Call 2024. The Director of UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Offices and Institutional Partnerships presented the certificate and trophy to the winning enterprise.

The World FoodTech Expo and COEX FOOD WEEK in Korea attracted over 900 enterprises from 15 countries, with 1,500 exhibition booths fully occupied and more than 50,000 attendees. The 23 UNIDO Global Call 2024 winning enterprises conducted roadshows during the events, generating widespread interest.

Under UNIDO's motto of "Progress by Innovation," ITPO Shanghai will actively build a high-level international exchange and matching platform, helping more Chinese technology projects reach broader international stages.

The UNIDO Global Call is UNIDO's flagship annual event for promoting global technological cooperation. It was initiated against the backdrop of global climate change response, post-pandemic economic reconstruction, green recovery, and the SDG Decade of Action. It was awarded the UN 2020 Innovation Award.

UNIDO Global Call has been held five times: in Italy (2020), Germany (2021), Shanghai, China (2022), Beijing, China (2023), and Souel (2024). It has collected over 2,200 technology solutions from 110 countries across five continents, selecting highly innovative solutions and innovative application projects from around the world.
