UNIDO DG LI Yong Meets Secretary LI Qiang and Co-Addresses WAIC 2019

On August 30, 2019, UNIDO, together with local governments and research institutes in Yangzte River Delta, co-hosted the 2019 WAIC. LI Yong, Director General of UNIDO and LI Qiang, Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

Previously on August 29, in the meeting of LI Qiang and LI Yong, the two sides said that they would continue to strengthen the joint construction of ITPO Shanghai and give full play to its advantages in two-way investment promotion and technical cooperation. At the same time, UNIDO would also constantly support Shanghai to hold important events such as China International Import Expo and make Shanghai a global platform for international cooperation. Bernardo Calzadilla Sarmiento, Director of TII, UNIDO, ZHAO Xiaolei, Head of ITPO Shanghai, ZHUGE Yujie, Secretary General of the Shanghai Municipal Committee attended the meeting.

Bernardo Calzadilla Sarmiento, Director of TII, UNIDO, was invited to attend the two summits of WAIC, "International Smart City Summit" and "Global Industrial Intelligence Summit", and delivered speeches. In his opening speech, Mr. Bernardo pointed out that technology and innovation would play an important role in the "2030 Sustainable Development Goals". At the multilateral level, UNIDO worked with all stakeholders to provide important learning opportunities for exchange of knowledge and best practices, in order to meet the challenges and opportunities brought by the 4.0 industrial revolution , and to seek cooperation and development. PENG Chenlei, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, WUZhiqiang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and vice mayor of Milan, Italy attended the summits.

Previously on August 29, the consulting conference of WAIC with the theme of " Challenges and Breakthroughs in the Development of AI" was held successfully. The meeting was co-hosted by ITPO Shanghai, Shanghai government, Shanghai Research Institute, etc, with over 200 attendants. The officer of ITPO, introduced the theoretical research and practical methods of UNIDO in the field of investment promotion in the context of AI. Participants expressed strong interest in this issue and hoped to strengthen cooperation with ITPO Shanghai in introducing international advanced concepts and tools, carrying out industrial analysis and promoting two-way investment.
