Party Secretary of Shanghai Municipality LI Qiang met UNIDO delegation to 2019 WAIC led by Director General LI Yong

SHANGHAI, 29 August 2019 – Party Secretary of Shanghai Municipality, LI Qiang met UNIDO delegation to 2019 World Artificial Intelligence Conference led by Director General LI Yong. The two sides reviewed cooperation achievements between United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Shanghai Municipality, and discussed the fields and directions of future cooperation.

Director General LI Yong commented that UNIDO's cooperation with Shanghai had witnessed a long history. UNIDO will actively respond to Shanghai's efforts in promoting the construction of a globally influential science and technology innovation center. Combined with the development of artificial intelligence, through UNIDO’s global network of investment and technology promotion offices (ITPOs), UNIDO will continue promoting an inclusive and sustainable industrial development.

Hence, UNIDO is willing to work with the Shanghai Municipality to continue strengthening the joint construction of UNIDO ITPO Shanghai. The project is aimed at taking full advantages of its capacities in two-way investment promotion and technology cooperation and exchanges.In the meantime, UNIDO will also support Shanghai to orgnize important events such as China International Import Expo (CIIE), with the view of building an international exchange and cooperation platform for Shanghai.

Also attending the meeting were Mr. ZHUGE Yujie, Secretary General of Shanghai Municipality, Mr. HUA Yuan, Chairman of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, Mr. ZHANG Xiaosong, Director of Foreign Affairs Office, Mr. WU Jincheng, Chairman of the Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, Dr. Bernardo Calzadilla- Sarmiento, Director of UNIDO’s department of Trade, Investment and Innovation (TII), and Ms. ZHAO Xiaolei, Head of UNIDO ITPO Shanghai.
