On November 6, the 2022 Climate Change and Low Carbon Development Forum was successfully held in Shanghai, hosted by CCPIT and UNIDO, and organized by China International Chamber of Commerce (CICC), the China Council of the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) and the World Resources Institute (WRI). The Forum was a side event of the 5th Fair. The Managing Director of UNIDO, Mr. Zou Ciyong, the President of CCPIT, Mr. Ren Hongbin, the Managing Director of WRI, Mr. Craig Hanson, and the Minister Counsellor (Financial Services and Investment) of the UK, Mr. Rahul Ahluwalia, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.

In his video message, Zou Ciyong said that UNIDO is committed to achieving sustainable development and climate goals and contributing to low-carbon development, focusing on three points: first, making green products, like green steel, the choice of the global market, second, investment in emerging technologies to ensure that more and more companies implement and utilize carbon capture by 2030, and third, addressing the decarbonization challenge with innovation covering advanced digital production, green growth, healthcare and wellness, and agriculture and food, among other topics.

Ren Hongbin said that in August this year, CCPIT took the lead in establishing the China Council of the Sustainable Markets Initiative, marking the establishment of an important cooperation platform for the Chinese business community to participate in global sustainable development on a wider scale, in a broader field and at a higher level. Guided by the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, CCPIT and CII will continue to play the role of an open window and bridge, highlight the function of linking government and enterprises, integrating internal and external aspects, and unlocking supply and demand, weaving a tighter network of services for enterprises, expanding the circle of international friends, further strengthening communication with international organizations and the business community of various countries, building more platforms for exchange and cooperation, providing better commercial legal services, and contributing to the promotion of sustainable development and We will make new and greater contributions to promoting sustainable development and building a community of human destiny together.

In his video message, Craig Hansen said that WRI's "Produce, Protect, Reduce, Restore" pathway can help address the impact of food systems on climate change. We should produce food sustainably on existing agricultural lands, protect natural ecosystems, reduce food loss and waste and food system inefficiencies, and restore transformed and lost ecosystems, thus contributing to a sustainable transformation of food systems and achieving food and climate security goals.
