UNIDO ITPO Shanghai and the Investment Promotion Agency of the Ministry of Commerce, P.R.C. jointly launched the "Initiative for Sustainable Industrial Park"

On August 3, 2023, the 4th China Development Zone Innovation and Development Conference, jointly organized by the Investment Promotion Agency of the Ministry of Commerce, P.R.C., Longyuan Tiance and Longyuan Mingzhu, was successfully held in Shanghai. YU Guangsheng, Deputy Director General of the Investment Promotion Agency of the Ministry of Commerce, and other leaders attended the event. As a supporting partner of the conference, UNIDO ITPO Shanghai was invited to attend.

CHONG Quan, former deputy representative of China International Trade Negotiations and president of China Society for World Trade Organization Studies, YAN Wenbin, former vice president of Xinhua News Agency, KANG Yanbing, deputy director and researcher of the National Energy Conservation Center, LI Feng, vice mayor of Shanghai Jiading District Government, LU Xiongwen, professor, doctoral tutor and dean of the School of Management of Fudan University, ZHAO Baogang, vice mayor of Weihai Municipal Government, SONG Xuefeng, vice president of Shenergy Company Limited, and XIE Jihua, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Shanghai Technology Exchange, attended the conference and delivered keynote speeches.
In the main forum of the conference, YU Guangsheng, Deputy Director General of the Investment Promotion Agency of the Ministry of Commerce, and ZHAO Xiaolei, Director of UNIDO ITPO Shanghai, jointly launched the "Initiative for Sustainable Industrial Park" (hereinafter referred to as the "Initiative"). Based on the strong recognition of the United Nations' 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the two parties called for more partners to join the Initiative and signed the "Joint Statement of Partners for Sustainable Industrial Park Initiative". The Initiative aims to explore ways of green development and digital transformation of industrial parks, encourage low-carbon innovative practices, and work on empowering park operations, benchmarking against international evaluation systems, developing excellent cases, and fostering a dual carbon target ecosphere to realize sustainable industrial development in China's development zones/industrial parks.
As a positive response to the initiative, the "CDI Green Dual-Carbon Parks Program" was also launched at the conference, which is dedicated to promoting the construction of 100+ zero-carbon and near-zero-carbon parks, aiming to create practical samples of zero-carbon parks and green demonstration parks in China.

WANG Hui, Investment and Technology Promotion Officer of UNIDO ITPO Shanghai, moderated the "Zero Carbon Parks Roundtable Dialogue" in the sub-forum "Dialogue on Green, Dual-Carbon and Innovative Development of China's Development Zones" and discussed the topic "How to promote green and digital transformation of parks to realize sustainable development? WANG Minna, Chairman of Hangzhou Chaoteng Energy Technology Co.,Ltd, QIAN Feng, President of Shanghai Pudong Dafeng Carbon Neutral Innovation and Development Research Institute, CHEN Weilun, Deputy Director of Arup, SUN Ke, Chief Representative of Swiss Innovation Park China, and WANG Feng, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Working Committee of Suqian National Economic And Technological Development Area, shared cases from the perspectives of energy carbon neutrality, low-carbon buildings, low-carbon parks construction, and carbon-neutral governance respectively, and gave advice and suggestions on promoting sustainable development of parks.

Green development has become a major trend in the international community, and industrial zones are an important medium for the construction of ecological civilization. Promoting green transformation of development zones, changing the traditional development mode of high input, high consumption, and high emission, decoupling economic growth and carbon emission growth, and constructing a green and high-quality development system is an inevitable path to enhance the international competitiveness of China's economy. UNIDO ITPO Shanghai will uphold the concept of sustainable development, empower technological cooperation, enhance investment competitiveness, propel technological cooperation and enhance investment competitiveness; promote sustainable industrial park practices and optimize industrial park business environment; explore green development while facilitating digital transformation; develop green dual carbon ecosphere and encourage sustainable development for industrial park.
