UNIDO Shanghai ITPO Attends the 2023 New Low-carbon Metallurgy Modern Industrial Chain Co-chain Action and Steel Industry Internet Conference

The steel industry is a pillar industry in China's industry, accounting for approximately 5% of domestic GDP. At the same time, the world produces and uses up to 1.8 billion tons of steel every year, of which nearly 50% is produced in mainland China. The carbon emissions of China's steel industry account for approximately 15% of China's total carbon emissions, making it the manufacturing industry with the highest carbon emissions. However, China's steel industry is still dominated by long processes with high carbon emission intensity, accounting for about 90% of crude steel production capacity. China's steel industry must reduce emissions by nearly 100% by 2050. This is a very challenging goal that requires joint efforts to promote zero-carbon transformation in multiple related fields such as steel consumption, production, technology, and supply. Under the dual pressure of carbon neutrality commitments and overcapacity reduction, China's steel industry faces severe challenges.

He hopes that Baowu will fully rely on industrial Internet platforms such as Ouyeel to lead the collaborative innovation of upstream, midstream and downstream enterprises in the industry chain. As the leader of the new low-carbon metallurgical modern industrial chain, Baowu has brought its first three-party steel industry Internet technology platform---Ouyeel Cloud Business has made important contributions to promoting the smart and low-carbon transformation of the steel industry.

JIANG Wei said in his speech that currently, the steel industry is moving towards a new stage of transformation, upgrading and high-quality development. At the ceremony, 22 EPDs and the global launch of 3 PCRs (product category rules for magnesium and magnesium alloys, for metal waste products and for cargo transportation services) were released. The three new PCRs will fill the gap in environmental performance evaluation rules for magnesium products, metal waste products and cargo transportation services worldwide, and will further enhance the international influence of the steel EPD platform in the industrial sector.
