3rd Campaign of Carbon-Neutral Technology - Solutions

Excellencies, Distinguished delegates, Ladies and Gentlemen,

On behalf of UNIDO, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the UNIDO DAY 2024 held at the tenth China International Technology Fair.

I’m pleased to note that our theme today, “Green Science Technology Innovation Stirs Up New Productive Forces” echoes UNIDO’s Motto, “Progress by Innovation”. We see these new productive forces every day. Economies around the world are undergoing significant transformations due to advancement in green and innovative technologies. If used appropriately, these innovations can stir up us towards a more sustainable and low-carbon future. To achieve this, the policy context is key.

UNIDO’s 2024 Industrial Development Report (IDR24) reveals four fundamental factors in the development of modern industrial policies. Modern industrial policy should align with the SDGs. They should be future-ready and consider the mega trend that are reshaping the world. Modern industrial policy should be collaborative and policy should be regionally coordinated. UNIDO further finds that the contribution of the manufacturing sector to green innovation is significantly higher than other industries. Accelerating the development of green technology innovation is therefore crucial for achieving the sustainable development goals at large. Against this background, UNIDO's international network of investment and technology promotion offices, ITPOs have undertaken numerous initiatives to support the global green economy and low-carbon development. Over the past four years, the network's Global Call event has attracted more than 2000 participants from over 100 countries who have showcased a variety of green and smart solutions.

On this occasion, I would like to also highlight the work of ITPO Shanghai which actively promotes green investment and adoption of green and sustainable technologies. Amongst recent achievements, ITPO Shanghai’s world industrial and innovative technological collaborations program has allowed many enterprises to showcase the green technology products to a global audience. Today we are launching the third collection of carbon neutrality technology proposals and announcing the UNIDO Global Call 2024 to invite submissions of green solutions for sustainable industrial development.

In light of these accomplishments, I'm delighted to express UNIDO’s gratitude to its partners and collaborators for their dedication. Together with you, we will continue to explore sustainable path to a better future through green innovation and international corporation. At this 10th anniversary of China International Technology Fair, it is my honor to wish you all a successful and inspiring UNIDO Day.
