30+ Ministerial Roundtable｜Director General Speech of UNIDO Delivered at WAIC 2024

Promoting shared benefits through collective consultation and enhancing intelligent governance through good governance. As the main forum of the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference & High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance, the Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence Main Forum was held on the afternoon of July 4 in Shanghai. Minister of Science and Technology Yin Hejun, Mayor of Shanghai Gong Zheng, and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Ma Zhaoxu attended and delivered speeches, with Vice Minister of Science and Technology Long Teng presiding over the event. Gerd Müller, Director General of UNIDO, was invited to speak at the Global Governance Main Forum. Ministerial-level officials from more than 30 countries and heads of relevant international organizations attended the forum.

In his speech, Director General Gerd Müller stated that UNIDO is committed to balancing AI and digital transformation by harnessing the power of AI and other digital technologies across multiple fields and ensuring that the benefits are inclusively and sustainably shared. He further emphasized the importance of industrial development and outlined UNIDO’s role and principles in promoting it. The Director General believed that the development of AI is inevitable, but we can collectively determine our path: digital innovation, reducing risks, and ensuring that AI creates more jobs and opportunities. He called for joint efforts to bridge the digital divide, promote global cooperation, and create a sustainable and inclusive future for all.
