WAIC 2024 UNIDO Deputy Director General Zou Ciyong attended the Industry Development Main Forum and the ITU AI for Good Expanding Impact Innovation Forum.

On the afternoon of the opening day of the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference & High-Level Meeting on Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence, the Industry Development Main Forum was successfully held in the Silver Hall of the Shanghai Expo Center. The forum brought together over 20 top experts in the field of artificial intelligence from home and abroad, industry leaders, emerging forces, and representatives from all parts of the industrial chain. The forum focused on cutting-edge topics such as large models, embodied intelligence, AI infrastructure, and intelligent terminals. It comprehensively deconstructed new elements, new business forms, and new models of the general artificial intelligence industry, analyzed global strategic trends in current AI industry development, and deeply explored future breakthroughs in the capabilities of large models, new intelligent terminals in the era of large models, and the formation of new value chains driven by large models. The forum also discussed the prospects of AI applications, ecosystem construction, and other hot topics.

Mr. Zou Ciyong, Deputy Director General and Managing Director of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), attended the Industry Development Main Forum and delivered a speech.

In his speech, Deputy Director General Zou Ciyong stated that UNIDO is committed to advocating for inclusive and sustainable industrial development, looking forward to building a better world by empowering industries through digitalization, promoting a prosperous and sustainable economy, creating inclusive and climate-resilient societies, and building a planet that enhances human well-being and health.
Deputy Director General Zou Ciyong also mentioned in his speech the resolution on strengthening international cooperation in AI capacity building, which was passed at the 78th United Nations General Assembly on July 1. This resolution emphasizes the importance of human-centered, AI-for-good development and calls for international cooperation to promote fair and inclusive AI governance. In this regard, UNIDO is proud to leverage China's extensive expertise and great spirit of cooperation to promote the equitable development of AI. In the future, we hope to facilitate AI cooperation and exchange through the Center of Excellence for the Global Industrial and Manufacturing AI Alliance, bridge the digital divide, and enhance human well-being.
Additionally, Deputy Director General Zou attended the ITU AI for Good: Innovate for Impact Forum, participated in the United Nations high-level panel discussion, and released the policy report "Bridging the AI Divide: Empowering Developing Countries through Manufacturing."

Deputy Director General Zou summarized the current state of innovation and distribution of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, pointing out that developed countries have significant advantages in AI capabilities and resources, while developing countries are often technology users rather than innovators. He also mentioned UNIDO's role in supporting developing countries by formulating policies, developing skills, and promoting international cooperation to help these countries achieve industrial and economic progress amid global technological advancements.
