Background
UNIDO is launching the Global Alliance on Artificial Intelligence for Industry and Manufacturing (AIM- Global), which will promote the safe, sustainable and inclusive use of artificial intelligence (AI) in industry. AIM-Global is bringing together leading organizations from government, academia, civil society and the private sector in alignment with the UN Secretary-General’s Our Common Agenda, which calls to agree on a Global Digital Compact to outline “shared principles for an open, free and secure digital future for all”.
Goal and Objectives of AIM-Global
To facilitate the development and deployment of AI technologies that enhance industrial competitiveness and sustainable development, ensuring that the benefits of AI are shared equitably and sustainably.
- Developing skills and supporting data protection: The alliance will work to address the need for AI literacy and a global capacity for the development and use of AI, ethical and legal considerations, and the protection of sensitive data.
- Addressing the digital divide: As AI has the potential to drive major advances in productivity, efficiency, as well as sustainability in industry and manufacturing, it is crucial that these DRAFT advances be made in a safe, sustainable and inclusive manner, so that the benefits of AI are shared equitably, and the risks are minimized.
- Provide a global platform for frontier technology discourse: AIM-Global will provide a platform for worldwide collaboration and knowledge sharing on AI’s benefits and challenges to help build and promote the development of international standards and best practices for the safe and sustainable use of AI in industry and manufacturing.
