UN Enabling Enterprises Going Global Investment in ASEAN Countries Workshop

On October 20-21, 2025, Fukuya IINO, the Representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Sub-Regional Office in Thailand for Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Lao PDR, visited Shanghai and conducted a series of activities with UNIDO ITPO Shanghai . These included an investment promotion event focused on ASEAN, an industrial internet exchange session, and a site visit to the hydrogen energy industry.

On the morning of October 20th, the "Investment in ASEAN Countries Workshop" was successfully supported by Shanghai Pudong Service Center for Oversea Investment. Ms. Zhao Xiaolei, Head of UNIDO ITPO Shanghai  , welcomed over 30 guests attending the workshop. Mr. Feng Ji, Secretary-General of Shanghai Pudong Service Center for Oversea Investment, introduced the development of Pudong 's one-stop platform for enterprises going global and emphasized comprehensive cooperation with UNIDO Shanghai ITPO in both "Go global" and "Bring in."

Mr. Fukuya IINO systematically analyzed the current stage of foreign investment in ASEAN from multiple dimensions, including geographical location, official institutions, key industries, and economic planning in his keynote speech.. By elaborating on regional cooperation frameworks such as the East-West Economic Corridor, IMT-GT (Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle), and BIMP-EAGA (Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area), he clearly demonstrated ASEAN's investment environment, cooperation trends, and potential of immense economic development . He pointed out that ASEAN countries are actively attracting foreign investment by developing key industries and enhancing economic linkages at national and regional levels.

In the afternoon of October 20th, Mr. Fukuya IINO engaged in in-depth discussions with seven leading industrial internet companies on topics such as overseas channels in ASEAN markets, participation in UN international procurement projects, and high-level matchmaking activities on UN platforms with strongly support through the Shanghai Industrial Internet Association. Mr. Zhang Xiping, President of the Shanghai Industrial Internet Association, and Ms. Wang Xuqin, Secretary-General, among others, attended the meeting. During the discussion, Mr. Fukuya IINO invited the Shanghai Industrial Internet Association to collaborate on organizing an ASEAN artificial intelligence matchmaking workshop next year.

On the morning of October 21st, Fukuya IINO conducted a field inspection of the Jiading Hydrogen Park accompanied by Wang Hui, Investment and Technology Promotion Officer of UNIDO ITPO Shanghai. They were warmly received by Mr. Qiu Peng, General Manager of the Jiading Hydrogen Park. Qiu Peng stated that the Jiading Hydrogen Park and UNIDO has collaborated since 2021 to hold the First Expert Group Meeting to support the operationalization and capacity building of the International Hydrogen Energy Centre (IHEC), and the outcomes of the meeting effectively promoted the development of the Jiading Hydrogen Park. He expressed anticipation for deeper cooperation with UNIDO.Mr Fukuya IINO specifically introduced Thailand's ASEAN Economic Corridor Cooperation Development Zone and expressed willingness to facilitate connections for the Jiading Hydrogen Energy Port's global expansion.

Looking ahead, UNIDO ITPO Shanghai will continue to collaborate with various partners, leveraging UNIDO's global network resources to provide enterprises with multi-dimensional support in policy guidance, project matchmaking, and international cooperation, helping Chinese enterprises move steadily and purposefully on their "go global" journey.
