UNIDO AIM Global and United Nations University Reach a Collaboration Agreement!
The 2024 Artificial Intelligence Conference hosted by the United Nations University in Macau has just concluded successfully in Macau, China. This conference was a tribute to the 2024 United Nations Future Summit. Nearly 500 representatives from over 30 countries, including those from the global academic community, government departments, the private sector, international organizations, and civil society organizations, gathered at the event. During the opening ceremony, the United Nations Technology Envoy and Under-Secretary-General Amandeep Singh Gill, and United Nations Deputy Secretary-General for Policy Guy Bernard Ryder sent video congratulatory messages. Macau SAR Government's Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ao Ieong U, and Cambodia's Secretary of State for the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications Neang Mao delivered speeches. Professor Xue Lan, Dean of the Schwarzman Scholars Program at Tsinghua University and Director of the Institute for AI International Governance, gave a keynote speech. Zhao Xiaolei, Head of Shanghai ITPO, was invited to attend the conference by Dr. Huang Jingbo, Director of the United Nations University Institute in Macau.

In his address at the conference, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and UNU Rector Tshilidzi Marwala stated, "The complexity of artificial intelligence arises from our attempt to comprehend the entirety of our planet and address some of the most historical challenges. Now is the time to pose significant questions, and we need to incorporate artificial intelligence into the core agenda of sustainable development."
In his video address, United Nations Technology Envoy and Under-Secretary-General Amandeep Singh-Gill stated, "We need to ensure the interoperability of governance initiatives, bridge the digital divide, and adopt a multilateral approach to realize the full potential of artificial intelligence."
In his video address, UN Under-Secretary-General for Policy Guy Bernard Ryder congratulated the launch of the United Nations University Artificial Intelligence Network, noting, "It has the potential to bring together experts from multiple industries to discuss AI-related issues and challenges and develop solutions."

The conference revolved around the theme "Artificial Intelligence for Everyone: Bridging the Gaps and Building a Sustainable Future" and featured 26 sub-forums covering three main thematic directions. During the event, the United Nations University Global Artificial Intelligence Network was officially launched. Additionally, a cooperation agreement was formally signed between the UNIDO AIM Global Alliance and the United Nations University Global Artificial Intelligence Network, marking a new chapter of collaboration promoted by the United Nations University and its partners.

UNIDO Director General Gerd Müller delivered a video speech at the special UNIDO AIM Global side event during the conference, emphasizing that "Artificial Intelligence is fundamentally transforming the industrial sector, enhancing productivity, and paving the way for sustainable practices." He stated, "UNIDO is leading the integration of Artificial Intelligence into industry to achieve a sustainable future."
